Ecosa lets you rearrange the layers; Emma cools better than foam usually does. Both are real advantages and both are answers to questions about foam. Neither addresses what foam is structurally worst at: holding an edge. Ecosa scores 6.5 there and Emma 6.0, the two lowest we have recorded.
Sleep Republic approaches it from the other side — a pocket-spring hybrid where the edge is reinforced and air moves between the coils rather than being managed by the foam. Edge support 9.2, motion isolation 9.0, and the longest trial of the three at 150 nights.

Is Ecosa’s adjustable firmness actually useful?
Yes — it’s one of Ecosa’s strongest features. You unzip the cover and rearrange the foam layers to get medium (6/10), medium-firm (7.5/10), or firm (8.5/10). It’s especially useful if you’re not sure what firmness you prefer, or if your preference changes over time. The process takes about 10 minutes.
Which is softer — Ecosa or Emma?
Emma Comfort is generally softer. Even though both are rated around medium-firm, Emma’s Airgocell foam provides deeper sinkage and a more cradling feel. Ecosa’s softest setting (medium) still leans toward the firmer side. Side sleepers who want more cushioning around shoulders and hips tend to prefer Emma.
Which is better for hot sleepers?
Both perform similarly on cooling. Ecosa uses G-7 gel memory foam with open-cell design, while Emma uses Airgocell foam. Is Ecosa really carbon neutral?

Can I use either mattress on an adjustable bed base?
