OneBed Original Mattress Review 2026
The best budget mattress in Australia. Adjustable firmness via flippable layers, 125-night trial, 15-year warranty, Dunlop latex comfort, free delivery — all under $850 for a Queen on sale. The hidden gem most buyers overlook.
OneBed Original is the mattress we recommend to anyone who says “I just want something good that won’t break the bank.” At ~$840 Queen on sale, you get adjustable firmness (rearrangeable foam layers), natural Dunlop latex for durability and comfort, cooling gel memory foam, a 125-night trial, and a 15-year warranty. The 15-year warranty at this price is exceptional — Ecosa and Origin also offer 15 years, but both cost more. The main trade-off? It’s all-foam, so edge support is basic, it sleeps warmer than hybrids, and heavier sleepers (100kg+) may find the foam compresses over time. But for the price-to-quality ratio, nothing else comes close.
SKIP IF: You weigh over 100kg, want springs, need strong edge support, or sleep very hot
Our Rating
OneBed is an Australian mattress brand that positions itself as a premium-quality, budget-friendly option. They offer three mattress models: the Essential (entry-level), Original (mid-range, this review), and Max (premium hybrid with pocket springs). The Original has been their most popular product since launch, earning a 4.6/5 customer rating and loyal repeat buyers. OneBed also sells the Onebed X (hybrid), adjustable bed frames, and toppers. Returned mattresses are donated to the Salvation Army, which is a commendable practice.
OneBed flies under the radar compared to Koala and Emma — they don’t spend millions on advertising. This means less brand recognition but also less marketing cost baked into the price. The result: better product for less money. It’s the classic “hidden gem” recommendation.
Breathable eucalyptus-based TENCEL fabric — soft, moisture-wicking, and hypoallergenic. Removable and machine-washable via zipper. A premium cover material typically found in higher-priced mattresses.
This is the firmness adjustment layer — move it to the top for a more responsive, bouncier feel, or keep it in the middle for balanced support. Dunlop latex is naturally durable (outlasts memory foam significantly), hypoallergenic, and more breathable than synthetic foams. This is a premium material inclusion at this price.
Gel-infused memory foam for pressure relief and temperature regulation. Place it on top for a classic “body-hugging” feel, or in the middle for a more balanced mattress. By swapping the position of the latex and memory foam layers, you create 3 different firmness levels.
The foundation layer — a 5-zone high-density foam base with firmer support under the hips and lumbar area. This stays in place regardless of how you arrange the comfort layers above. Provides structural support and spinal alignment.

OneBed Original defaults to a medium-firm feel (~7/10) out of the box. It feels supportive but not overly hard — there’s enough cushion from the latex and memory foam layers to prevent a “sleeping on a board” sensation. By rearranging the 3 foam layers, you can create 3 distinct firmness options: latex on top for a more responsive, bouncy feel (~6.5/10), memory foam on top for a softer, body-hugging feel (~6/10), or the default configuration for maximum support (~7/10).
For back sleepers: Good on default or firm setting. Adequate spinal support for lighter to medium-weight back sleepers. For side sleepers: Acceptable on the softest setting (memory foam on top). Pressure relief is decent but not as plush as Emma. For stomach sleepers: Good on the firmest setting. For couples: Good motion isolation from the foam layers, but you can’t have different firmness on each side. For heavy sleepers (100kg+): Not ideal — the all-foam construction may compress over time. Consider Origin or Sleep Republic (hybrids) instead.
