Best Bed Sheets Australia

Six sheet sets compared on fabric, pocket depth, returns and today’s price, from everyday bamboo to mulberry silk, plus which ones fit a tall mattress.

Updated: September 2026 · 6 sheet sets compared · 10 min read

Sheets are the part of the bed you actually touch. A good mattress under a sheet that traps heat still makes for a bad night, and a fitted sheet that springs off the corners of a tall hybrid is a small nightly annoyance nobody needs. The fabric decides most of how a sheet feels, and the depth of the fitted sheet’s pocket decides whether it stays on your mattress at all.

Four fabrics are worth knowing. Cotton is the all-rounder: breathable, hard-wearing and easy to wash. Bamboo feels silky and cool and drapes softly. Linen is textured, breathes very well and softens with every wash. Silk is the smoothest of all, and the most delicate.

How we compared them. On what each retailer publishes and commits to: fibre and weave, thread count or fabric weight, named certifications, fitted-sheet pocket depth, returns and warranty terms, plus owner reviews on the retailer’s own site. Prices are the Queen size, read every day by our price bot. We compared sheets from retailers we work with; other good sheets are on the market, and the checklist further down works for any of them. We do not physically test products.

Queen size, in AUD, read daily from each store. Pocket is the Queen fitted sheet’s depth as the maker states it. Bedding Co takes sheets back within 120 days for its Better Sleep Club members and 30 days for everyone else, provided they are unused, unwashed and in the original packaging.

Which One Should You Buy?

Our view: choose the fabric before the brand. The difference between bamboo and linen is far bigger than the difference between two good bamboo sets. Then check the pocket against your mattress before anything else, because a lovely sheet that will not stay on the corners is not a lovely sheet.

Six Sheet Sets, and Who Each One Suits

Best Bamboo
Sleep Republic Bamboo Bed Sheets
Organic bamboo, covered by a 150-night trial
Sleep Republic Bamboo Bed Sheets in Brilliant White on a made bed
Best for: Hot sleepers, and anyone unsure whether bamboo suits them
What you get

A fitted sheet, flat sheet and two pillowcases in 100% certified organic bamboo, in up to six colours from Brilliant White to Sage, sized Single to Super King. The Queen fitted sheet has a 44cm pocket, which Sleep Republic rates for mattresses up to 35cm. Unusually for bedding, the sheets are covered by the same 150-night trial as its mattresses: if you do not love them, Sleep Republic arranges the return and refunds you in full.

Our take: the trial is the reason to choose it. Bamboo is a feel people tend to love or not, and every other set on this page has to go back unwashed, which means you never really find out. Here you can sleep on it for months first. If you already know bamboo suits you, the Bedding Co set below gives you more published detail.
The honest trade-off: Sleep Republic publishes no thread count or fabric weight, and calls the bamboo certified organic without naming the certifier. There are no owner reviews on the product page yet. At 44cm the pocket is the shallowest here, so it is not the set for a mattress taller than 35cm.

Bedding Co Organic Bamboo Sheet Set
350 thread count, OEKO-TEX certified, the lowest price here when we checked
Bedding Co Organic Bamboo Sheet Set in white on a made bed
Best for: Bamboo sheets without paying extra
What you get

A 350 thread count set in 100% organic bamboo, certified to OEKO-TEX Standard 100, with a fitted sheet, a flat sheet and pillowcases (one with the single sizes, two from Double up). The Queen pocket is 45cm. It comes in more colours than any other set on this page, from Single to Super King, with a five-year warranty and 169 owner reviews.

Our take: if you already know you like bamboo, this is the set we would buy. Next to Sleep Republic’s it adds a named safety certification, a published thread count and a real body of owner reviews. What it gives up is the trial.
The honest trade-off: sheets sit outside Bedding Co’s Love It Guarantee, so they go back only unused, unwashed and in the original packaging. Like every Bedding Co set here it averages a perfect 5.0 on Bedding Co’s own site; reviews hosted by the retailer tend to run high, so we give more weight to how many there are than to the average. And like most bamboo sheets, it does not say whether the fibre is made as a viscose or a lyocell.

Most Reviewed
Bedding Co 1200TC Egyptian Cotton Sheet Set
Long-staple Egyptian cotton in a sateen weave
Bedding Co 1200 thread count Egyptian Cotton Sheet Set in white on a made bed
Best for: Smooth, hotel-style cotton
What you get

Long-staple Egyptian cotton in a smooth sateen weave, certified by the Cotton Egypt Association and to OEKO-TEX. The Queen pocket is 45cm (50cm on the Super King), it comes in a wide range of colours and every size from Single to Super King, and it carries a five-year warranty. It is Bedding Co’s bestseller, with 2,289 owner reviews.

Our take: the safest choice on the page. Egyptian cotton sateen is the classic hotel sheet, the certifications are named, and nothing else here comes close on owner feedback. Buy it for the fibre and the reviews, not for the 1200 on the label.
The honest trade-off: that thread count needs context. Bedding Co does not say whether the yarn is single or multi-ply, and counts this high are usually reached by twisting thinner yarns together, which makes a bigger number rather than necessarily a better sheet. Sateen also sleeps a little warmer than linen or a crisp percale. Returns follow the same unused-and-unwashed rule as the other Bedding Co sets.

Best Organic Cotton
Peace Lily Organic Egyptian Cotton Sheet Set
Single-ply 600 thread count, with the deepest cotton pocket here
Peace Lily Organic Egyptian Cotton Bed Sheet Set folded in a stack
Best for: Tall mattresses, toppers, and organic cotton
What you get

Extra-long-staple organic Egyptian cotton, single-ply, 600 thread count, in a sateen weave, with a flat sheet, a fitted sheet and pillowcases. The fitted sheet has a 46cm pocket and a stretch elastic band, which Peace Lily sizes for its own mattress with room for a topper. Sizes run from Single to King, plus a Split King set with two fitted sheets.

Our take: the most fully specified cotton set on the page. Peace Lily states exactly what the others leave out, single-ply yarn and extra-long staple, which makes its 600 an honest count. With the 46cm pocket, it is our pick for a tall mattress or one with a topper on it.
The honest trade-off: it is excluded from Peace Lily’s 100-night trial for health and safety reasons, and its one-year warranty is well short of Bedding Co’s five. Eight owner reviews is too few to lean on. It comes in one colour, and Peace Lily does not name who certifies the cotton as organic.

Best Linen
Bedding Co French Flax Linen Sheet Set
100% French flax at 160GSM
Bedding Co French Flax Linen Sheet Set in white on a made bed
Best for: Hot, humid nights and a relaxed, lived-in look
What you get

100% French flax linen at 160 grams per square metre, which Bedding Co says softens with washing and wear. The Queen pocket is 45cm. It comes in seven colours, natural and olive among them, from Single to Super King, with a five-year warranty and 39 owner reviews.

Our take: the one to choose if you sleep hot and live somewhere humid. Linen is among the most breathable fabrics you can sleep on and is famously hard-wearing, and it looks deliberately relaxed rather than pressed. For a Queensland or Top End summer it is the set on this page we would pick.
The honest trade-off: linen feels textured and a little crisp at first, and it creases; if you like smooth, pressed sheets, choose the cotton. The returns rule stings more here than anywhere: linen takes a few washes to show you how it will feel, and Bedding Co only takes sheets back unwashed.

Best Luxury
Bedding Co Mulberry Silk Sheet Set, 22 Momme
6A-grade mulberry silk, with the deepest pocket here
Bedding Co 22 momme Mulberry Silk Sheet Set in white on a made bed
Best for: A genuine luxury, and the tallest mattresses
What you get

6A-grade mulberry silk at 22 momme. Momme is silk’s measure of weight: the higher it is, the denser and more durable the fabric. Bedding Co states the silk is GOTS and OEKO-TEX certified. The Queen fitted sheet has a 50cm pocket with a 3cm elastic, the deepest on this page, and the set carries a five-year warranty and 89 owner reviews.

Our take: a treat, not a necessity. Silk is the smoothest thing you can sleep on, and with a 50cm pocket it fits every mattress we cover, most of them with a topper on top. But it costs several times any other set here, so buy it because you want silk, not because you expect it to fix your sleep.
The honest trade-off: the price, first. Silk also asks for care: a gentle wash with silk detergent, no bleach or optical brighteners, and a low iron on the reverse. Bedding Co notes the colour can look different as the fibres catch the light. And like the other Bedding Co sets, it goes back only unused and unwashed.

Will They Fit Your Mattress?

Modern hybrids are tall, and a fitted sheet with a shallow pocket will not hold the corners. Sleep Republic rates its 44cm pocket for mattresses up to 35cm, a margin of about 9cm, and we applied the same margin to every set here. If you use a topper, add its thickness to your mattress before you compare.

Heights are the makers’ published figures. The 9cm margin is a rule of thumb, not a guarantee: elastic and fabric stretch differ, so check the size guide against your own mattress before you order.

What to Look For in Bed Sheets

  • Fabric first: cotton for easy care and durability, bamboo for a cool, silky feel, linen for heat and humidity, silk for smoothness. Get this right and the rest is detail
  • Thread count is a guide, not a grade: between about 300 and 600 in a single-ply yarn is plenty. Past that, the count usually climbs because thinner yarns are twisted together, not because the sheet is better
  • Weave: sateen is smooth with a soft sheen and sleeps slightly warmer; percale is crisp, matte and cooler. Both cotton sets on this page are sateen
  • Pocket depth: measure your mattress, add any topper, and allow about 9cm on top. The table above does it for the mattresses we cover
  • Certifications: OEKO-TEX Standard 100 means the finished fabric has been tested for harmful substances. GOTS certifies organic fibre through processing. “Certified organic” with no certifier named tells you less
  • Returns: most retailers take sheets back only unused and in their packaging. Know the rule before the first wash
  • Care: a cool, gentle wash and line drying keep bamboo and silk soft for longer. Sleep Republic advises against fabric softener and bleach on its bamboo

Bed Sheets

Are bamboo sheets better than cotton?
Neither is better; they are different. Bamboo feels silkier and cooler to the touch and drapes softly. Cotton is smooth or crisp depending on the weave, hard-wearing and easy to care for. If you sleep hot and like a silky feel, bamboo is worth trying, and Sleep Republic’s trial lets you find out before you commit.
Is a higher thread count better?
Only up to a point. A single-ply sheet between about 300 and 600 is plenty. Higher counts are usually reached with multi-ply yarns, thinner threads twisted together, which make a heavier sheet but not necessarily a softer or longer-lasting one. The quality of the fibre, such as long-staple cotton, matters more.
Which sheets are best for hot sleepers?
Of the fabrics here, linen and bamboo. Both breathe well and move moisture away from the skin. Cotton sateen and silk are smooth but can feel warmer. Sheets are only part of the answer: our guide to the best mattresses for hot sleepers covers the rest.
How deep should a fitted sheet be?
About 9cm deeper than your mattress, topper included. That is the margin Sleep Republic builds into its own sizing. A 31cm mattress needs a pocket of about 40cm; a 37cm mattress needs about 46cm.
Can I return sheets if I do not like them?
It depends on the retailer. Sleep Republic’s sheets are covered by its 150-night trial. Bedding Co takes sheets back only unused, unwashed and in the original packaging, within 120 days for members and 30 days otherwise. Peace Lily excludes its sheets from its 100-night trial.
Should I wash new sheets before using them?
Yes. Bedding Co recommends washing its sheets separately before first use, and it is a good habit with any new set: it removes finishing residue and any loose dye. Check the returns rule first, though, because a washed sheet usually cannot go back.
