One Scoring System. Zero Favourites.
Every brand on this site goes through the same five-stage research process and the same fixed scoring rubric — whether they’re a partner, a household name, or a brand we’d never heard of last month.
Our Philosophy
Why We Trust Data Over Anecdotes
Here’s an uncomfortable truth about mattress reviews: one person lying on a mattress for ten minutes tells you almost nothing. Comfort is personal — a mattress that feels perfect to a 70kg side sleeper can be wrong for a 100kg back sleeper. A showroom impression can’t predict how foam holds up in year three.
That’s why our methodology is built on scale instead: thousands of verified owners who’ve actually lived on these mattresses for months and years, cross-referenced with hard specifications and independent Australian testing data. Patterns across 47,000+ data points beat any single opinion — including ours.
The Process
Five Stages, Every Brand, No Exceptions
Specification & Claims Audit
We document every claim a brand makes — foam density, spring counts, certifications (GECA, OEKO-TEX), firmness ratings, warranty terms, trial conditions — straight from official sources. Marketing language gets translated into comparable facts.
Verified Owner Review Analysis
The core of our methodology. We analyse hundreds of reviews per brand across ProductReview.com.au, Trustpilot and Google Reviews, weighting verified purchasers with 30+ days of ownership most heavily. We hunt for patterns: what do owners consistently praise? What complaints repeat across platforms? One bad review is noise — fifty identical complaints are signal.
Independent Testing Data
We cross-reference our findings against trusted independent Australian sources — including hands-on testers like Bedbuyer and consumer organisations like CHOICE — plus international testing labs where available. When their results contradict owner sentiment, we investigate why and tell you.
Real-Price Value Analysis
We track actual selling prices over time — not inflated RRPs. A “50% off” sale that runs all year isn’t a sale, and our value scores reflect what you’ll genuinely pay. This is also how we can tell you when an event like EOFY brings real extra savings versus marketing theatre.
Ongoing Monitoring & Updates
Mattresses get reformulated, prices move, warranties change. We re-verify codes, prices and claims monthly, and update reviews when brands change their products. Every money page shows when it was last verified.
The Scoring Rubric
How the /5 Score Is Built
Owner-reported comfort across sleeper types, spinal alignment feedback, pressure relief patterns, motion isolation.
Quality relative to real selling price — not RRP. A $900 mattress that performs like a $1,500 one scores high here.
Long-term owner reports (sagging, softening), material quality indicators, warranty length and what it actually covers.
Trial length, how painless returns really are (per owner reports), delivery speed and regional coverage.
Support responsiveness, warranty claim experiences, and how brands treat customers when something goes wrong.
Reading Our Scores
What the Numbers Mean
You’ll notice our scores cluster between 4.3 and 4.6 — that’s not grade inflation. We only publish full reviews of brands that pass our research threshold in the first place; the Australian bed-in-a-box market’s leaders are genuinely competitive, and the differences live in the details, which is exactly what our comparisons are for.
The Independence Clause
Some brands on this site are affiliate partners. Here’s our standing rule: the rubric is fixed before any partnership conversation begins, and no commercial relationship can move a score. Partner brands have asked us to adjust ratings and dock competitors — we’ve declined, in writing, and we’d do it again.
Every review lists cons as prominently as pros, including for partners. If that ever stops being true, this site stops being worth anything — to you or to us.
