Best Mattress Awards Australia 2026
Twelve awards, each going to the mattress our own guides and review scores already rank first, with the numbers behind every one shown.
The short answer. Three mattresses share our highest overall score: the Luxara Platinum, the Sleep Republic LUXE and the Yinahla Premier Luxe, all at 9.1 out of 10. Of the other awards, the LUXE wins five (side sleepers, arthritis, hot sleepers, older sleepers, and back pain, shared with the Yinahla), the Yinahla four (stomach sleepers, back sleepers, and the shared back pain and Australian-made awards), Sleep Firm two (Best Firm Mattress, and Best for Heavier People with its Ultra), and the Luxara one (Australian made, shared with the Yinahla). The OneBed Original wins Best Value on the highest value score we give. All twelve awards now go to mattresses that pay us a commission: we began earning a commission on OneBed, through the affiliate network Skimlinks, only after the awards were decided. Why that is, and the guide behind every award, are set out below.
Read this first
There is no best mattress. There is the best mattress for you.
Most awards below name the first pick of one of our guides, and the three position guides score firmness for a sleeper of about 60 to 100 kg. Your weight and the feel you like move the answer. A 55 kg side sleeper needs a softer mattress than a 110 kg one, and a 7 out of 10 that suits an 80 kg back sleeper is too soft for a stomach sleeper over 130 kg. It is also why one mattress can win two positions: for sleepers under 100 kg, a 7 out of 10 sits where the back and stomach ranges overlap.
Each position award shows the weights it suits. To find your own range, and the mattresses we review inside it, use our firmness calculator (position, weight and feel) or the mattress quiz, which adds budget and cooling.
How are the winners chosen?
One rule: each award goes to the mattress ranked first in our own published guide for that need, as the guide stood on 22 October 2026. Two awards come straight from our review scores instead. Highest Overall Score goes to the top overall score of the 14 mattresses we score; three tie at 9.1, so the award is shared. The back pain and Australian-made guides each have two mattresses tied at the top, so those awards are shared too. Best Value goes to the highest Value sub-score.
No new judgement is made on this page. It collects what our guides and scores already say. Each guide explains how it ranks, and most print the formula and the numbers that go into it, so you can check the working, or weigh things differently for yourself:
Every score behind these awards comes from the same desk research: analysis of verified owner reviews, independent awards, published specifications and warranty terms. We do not physically test mattresses. Commission never affects a score, a ranking or an award. Luxara, Sleep Republic, Sleep Firm and Yinahla pay us a commission when you buy through our links, and so does OneBed, through Skimlinks, an affiliate network; OneBed’s began only after these awards were decided.

Highest Overall Score: a three-way tie
Three mattresses share the highest overall score of the 14 we score, 9.1 out of 10, each the average of the sub-scores in its own review. Our 2026 ranking of all 14 lists the three as joint first (=1), so the award is shared.
Highest Overall Score (Joint) Luxara Platinum
Why it won: its overall score is the average of six sub-scores in our review, led by build quality at 9.8 and support at 9.5.
Worth knowing: value is its lowest sub-score, at 8.0. Luxara is not listed on ProductReview.com.au, so no large pool of owner reviews sits behind the score, and the trial is 100 nights.
Highest Overall Score (Joint) Sleep Republic LUXE
Why it won: its overall score is the average of six sub-scores in our review, led by comfort at 9.6, the highest comfort score we give any mattress.
Worth knowing: value is its lowest sub-score, at 7.8, and it costs more than the standard Sleep Republic.
Highest Overall Score (Joint) Yinahla Premier Luxe
Why it won: its overall score is the average of the sub-scores in our review, with zoned support at 9.7 and durability at 9.6.
Worth knowing: value scores 6.8, the lowest value score we give any mattress, because it costs several times what most of the mattresses we cover do.
Best mattress for side, stomach and back sleepers
Each position guide scores mattresses on a formula built for that position, and prints it on the page. The first pick on each one wins.
Best for Side Sleepers Sleep Republic LUXE
Why it won: first in our side sleepers guide on a Side Sleeper Score of 9.6, the average of its comfort sub-score (9.6, the highest comfort score we give any mattress) and how close its firmness sits to the side-sleeping optimum. Sleep Republic rates it Medium, 6 out of 10, a quarter point from the guide’s 5.75, and seven comfort layers over seven zones of pocket springs let the shoulder and hip settle. The Luxara Platinum is next at 9.4.
Worth knowing: a medium compresses further under a heavier body, so a heavier side sleeper will find it softer than Sleep Republic’s 6 out of 10 suggests. Value is its lowest sub-score, at 7.8, and it costs more than the standard Sleep Republic.
Fits by weight: suits side sleepers under 60 kg and 60–100 kg, and 100–130 kg at the soft edge of the range; over 130 kg it reads a little soft. Worked out on the same rule as our firmness calculator.
Best for Stomach Sleepers Yinahla Premier Luxe
Why it won: first in our stomach sleepers guide on a Stomach Score of 9.9, the average of three things: support of 9.7, a firmness inside the guide’s 7 to 8 out of 10 band (Yinahla rates it 7, Medium Firm), and pocket springs rather than foam, which hold the hips up. The Luxara Platinum and the standard Sleep Republic are joint second at 9.8.
Worth knowing: at 7 it sits at the soft edge of that band, under seven comfort layers, so stomach sleepers who want a harder surface have firmer picks in the guide. It is also by far the dearest mattress on that page.
Fits by weight: suits stomach sleepers under 60 kg and 60–100 kg; it reads a little soft at 100–130 kg and too soft over 130 kg. For a 100–130 kg stomach sleeper with no back pain, our firmness calculator points to the Sleep Republic ES, the Origin Hybrid and Sleeping Duck on its firm set-up; the all-foam Ecosa reaches that range only on its firmest setting, and our review advises against it over 110 kg.
Best for Back Sleepers Yinahla Premier Luxe
Why it won: first in our back sleepers guide on a Back Sleeper Fit of 9.9: support of 9.7 averaged with a full firmness fit of 10, because Yinahla rates it 7 out of 10, Medium Firm, inside the 6.5 to 7.5 band. Its nine spring zones are the most of any mattress we cover.
Worth knowing: its 4.9 owner rating rests on 99 ProductReview reviews, and it is made to order, so it arrives more slowly than a bed-in-a-box.
Fits by weight: suits back sleepers under 60 kg and 60–100 kg, and 100–130 kg at the soft edge of the range; over 130 kg it reads a little soft. Worked out on the same rule as our firmness calculator.
Best mattress for back pain, arthritis, older sleepers, heavier people and hot sleepers
These five awards follow the guides written for a particular problem. Read the trade-off on each card as carefully as the reason: a mattress that wins for one need can be wrong for another.
Best for Back Pain (Joint) Yinahla Premier Luxe, shared with the Sleep Republic LUXE
Why it won: joint first in our back pain guide, with the Sleep Republic LUXE, on a Back Pain Score of 9.6: the average of its support (9.7) and comfort (9.4) sub-scores, the two things the research cited in that guide connects to back pain.
Worth knowing: it costs several times what the standard Sleep Republic does, and for occasional back pain the guide’s own advice is that this is money you do not need to spend. Nothing here is medical advice.
Best for Back Pain (Joint) Sleep Republic LUXE, shared with the Yinahla Premier Luxe
Why it won: joint first in our back pain guide, with the Yinahla Premier Luxe, on a Back Pain Score of 9.6: the average of its support (9.5) and comfort (9.6) sub-scores. Seven zones of pocket springs sit under a plush top that Sleep Republic rates Medium, 6 out of 10, and it carries the Australian Spinal Research Foundation endorsement.
Worth knowing: it sits at the soft end of that guide, so if your pain comes from a mattress that has already gone soft, the guide points you to a firmer bed. Nothing here is medical advice.
Best for Arthritis Sleep Republic LUXE
Why it won: first in our arthritis guide on an Arthritis Fit of 9.5, the average of comfort (9.6), support (9.5) and edge support (9.3): a surface a sore joint can settle into, a level spine, and an edge firm enough to push up from. The Yinahla Premier Luxe is next at 9.4.
Worth knowing: it is a plush pillow-top, so heavier sleepers, or anyone who finds it hard to roll over on a soft surface, may do better on the guide’s firmer picks. Nothing here is medical advice.
Best for Older Sleepers Sleep Republic LUXE
Why it won: first in our older sleepers guide on an Elderly Fit of 9.45, the average of edge support (9.3), for sitting on and getting up from the bed, and comfort (9.6), for pressure on the hips and shoulders.
Worth knowing: the plush top is the wrong choice if you like a firm feel, and it arrives compressed in a box and is heavy to unpack, so plan for someone to help set it up.
Best for Heavier People Sleep Firm Ultra
Why it won: first in our heavy person guide, which ranks on the support score from our review of each mattress: 9.8, the firmest support on that list, with edge support of 9.4, the highest there.
Worth knowing: at 9.5 out of 10 it presses on the shoulder and hip of a side sleeper, and extra weight makes that worse, not better. The guide sends heavier side sleepers to other picks.
Fits by weight: on the chart our firmness calculator uses, 9.5 out of 10 is firmer than the suggested range for every position and weight. It comes closest for stomach sleepers over 130 kg who like a firm, on-top feel. The heavy person guide ranks on support, where the Ultra scores highest, not on firmness.
Best for Hot Sleepers Sleep Republic LUXE
Why it won: first in our hot sleepers guide, which ranks on the cooling sub-score from each review: 9.2, the highest cooling score in our reviews. A dedicated cooling layer sits between the comfort foams and seven-zone pocket springs, and the springs leave air space through the core.
Worth knowing: it is too soft if you want a genuinely firm bed or sleep on your stomach.
Best firm mattress, best Australian-made mattress and best value
The last three awards: two from guides, and Best Value straight from the value sub-score in each review.
Best Firm Mattress Sleep Firm
Why it won: first in our firm mattress guide as a true 9 out of 10, where most mattresses sold as firm in Australia land around 7. It comes with a 150-night trial and a 15-year warranty.
Worth knowing: skip it if you sleep on your side or weigh under about 100kg, because it will not let your shoulder sink. Its comfort sub-score is 6.5, the lowest of its eight.
Fits by weight: closest for stomach sleepers over 100 kg and back sleepers over 130 kg; for most other sleepers it is firmer than our firmness calculator suggests. That is its point: it is for people who have decided on a very firm bed.
Best Australian-Made Mattress (Joint) Yinahla Premier Luxe, shared with the Luxara Platinum
Why it won: our Australian-made guide lists only mattresses whose makers state in their own words that they manufacture here, and Yinahla says each one is “handcrafted to order in Melbourne”. It ties with the Luxara Platinum on our score of 9.1, and the guide calls that a genuine tie, listed warranty-first rather than because one beats the other, so the award is shared. Yinahla’s 20-year warranty is the longest of any mattress we score.
Worth knowing: its value sub-score is 6.8. The Luxara Platinum, which shares this award, and the Sleep Firm pass the same made-in-Australia test for considerably less.
Best Australian-Made Mattress (Joint) Luxara Platinum, shared with the Yinahla Premier Luxe
Why it won: our Australian-made guide lists only mattresses whose makers state in their own words that they manufacture here, and Luxara says the Platinum is “Handmade in Australia”. It ties with the Yinahla Premier Luxe on our score of 9.1, which the guide calls a genuine tie, so the award is shared. The guide names it the better-built of the two for the money, on a build quality sub-score of 9.8.
Worth knowing: its warranty is 10 years against Yinahla’s 20, and the trial is 100 nights.
Best Value OneBed Original
Why it won: the highest Value sub-score in our reviews, 9.6, just ahead of Origin at 9.5 (the Koala and Ergoflex reviews carry no Value sub-score). OneBed gives a 125-night trial, a 10-year warranty and firmness you can change by swapping its foam layers.
Worth knowing: value is the one category it leads; its overall score is 7.9. It is all-foam, so edge support is basic (6.0), and heavier sleepers may find the foam compresses over time.
Affiliate disclosure. This page contains affiliate links. Luxara, Sleep Republic, Sleep Firm and Yinahla pay us a commission if you buy through our links, at no extra cost to you. OneBed pays us too, through Skimlinks, an affiliate network; that began only after these awards were decided on 22 October 2026. That makes all twelve awards, and all sixteen winning places, mattresses that pay us.
Commission did not decide any of them. Each award comes from a guide’s published ranking or from a review score, and commission is not an input to either. Mattresses that earned us nothing when these awards were decided were scored on identical terms, and appear in nine of the ten guides behind them. Our method is analysis of verified owner reviews, independent awards, published specifications and warranty terms; we do not physically test mattresses. Prices on this page update automatically.
For brands: displaying the badge
Winners may display the BMA Awards 2026 badge for the award they won. Each badge names the award and the mattress, and the embed code we provide links it back to this page, so anyone who sees it can check what it is based on.
We do not charge for awards. An award cannot be bought, and no brand is offered one in exchange for a partnership. For the badge image and embed code, contact us.
Questions about the 2026 awards
How are the 2026 award winners chosen?
Each award goes to the mattress ranked first in our own published guide for that need, as the guide stood on 22 October 2026. Highest Overall Score goes to the top overall score of the 14 mattresses we score (a three-way tie at 9.1, so a joint award), and Best Value to the highest Value sub-score. The back pain and Australian-made awards are shared too, because each of those guides has two mattresses tied at the top. No new judgement is made on this page; every award links to the guide or review that decided it.
Are the awards paid for?
No. We do not charge for awards, an award cannot be bought, and no brand is offered one in exchange for a partnership. Winners may display the badge without paying anything. Separately, all five winning brands now pay us a commission when a reader buys through our links (OneBed only since the awards were decided), and that is disclosed above; it plays no part in any score or ranking.
Why do all of the awards go to brands that pay you a commission?
Because the guides rank mattresses on published criteria, most of them numeric formulas, and on those criteria these partner mattresses came out on top. We know that pattern looks convenient for us, which is why every award links to the guide that decided it, and every guide explains how it ranks, so you can check whether the order follows. Where a mattress that earned us nothing came out on top, it won: Best Value went to the OneBed Original, which paid us nothing when these awards were decided. Since then OneBed has begun to pay us a commission too, through Skimlinks, an affiliate network.
Why does the Yinahla Premier Luxe win both the stomach and the back sleeper award?
Because Yinahla rates it 7 out of 10, and 7 falls inside both ranges: our back sleepers guide looks for 6.5 to 7.5 and our stomach sleepers guide for 7 to 8. Both ranges move half a point firmer with each step up in weight, and 7 falls out of the stomach range first: the Yinahla reads a little soft for a stomach sleeper at 100 to 130 kg and too soft over 130 kg, and a little soft for a back sleeper over 130 kg. There is no single best mattress; our firmness calculator shows what fits your position and weight.
Did you test these mattresses?
No. We do not physically test mattresses, and no award here says we did. Every score comes from analysis of verified owner reviews, independent awards, published specifications and warranty terms.
How often are the awards updated?
These are the 2026 awards, fixed to our guides and scores as they stood on 22 October 2026. The guides keep changing as scores, models and trial terms change, so a guide may rank a different mattress first later on; the award records the result on that date. Any later edition will be drawn from the guides in the same way.
Does an award mean the mattress will suit me?
Not by itself. Each award answers one question for one kind of sleeper, and the same mattress can be wrong for someone else: the Sleep Firm that wins Best Firm Mattress is too hard for most side sleepers. Start with the guide for your own position or need, read the trade-off on the card, and use the trial. Every winner here gives you at least 100 nights.
